The Irony of Time
I’m currently on the cusp of a wild reflection period.
A year ago, I was deep in the hunt trying to get a job at Uber (aka stalking our VP Ryan Graves). In retrospect, I’m really not sure why I was so obsessed with getting the job. There was just something about the process, and the opportunity, that made me incensed to get it. Don’t get me wrong, it was the best decision I’ve ever made. I’ve actually never worked harder to get anything, and never worked harder at anything. Maybe it’s that. Maybe we all hit a breaking point where we realize that we have to work for what we want, and it’s all not just about luck (although luck always helps). No matter the reason, I couldn’t be happier about where I am.
It’s been an amazing year, we’ve gone from hundreds of signups in Chicago, to tens of thousands. We’ve gone from zero rides to, well, a lot. Best of all, it’s been an awesome ride, and I’m even more excited about the future and excited about what more hard work is going to bring us. I still haven’t quite comprehended what our team has done, but the impact is evident.
The irony of this anniversary lies in our latest task, to find a second Community Manager. I feel up for the challenge to find that person. A person who’s driven to succeed, passionate about their product, and up for the challenge of taking Uber Chicago to the next level.
Basically, you’re a badass who’s ready to grind. Let’s Go.
